My 5 year old daughter and 7 year old son both really like this toy. It is not as easy to use or quiet like they make it appear in the commercial. There is a plug on the base that you must hook up to the fairy to charge it. When it is done charging you disconnect the plug from the fairy and then turn it's power switch to the on position. The fairy will not charge if it's power switch is not in the off position. This is the part my kids have problems with. After the fairy is charged and it's power is turned on it is easy for kids to use. All they have to do is press the button and the fairy takes flight. It tends to fly strait up and hit the ceiling then lowers down slowly until comes close to something below it. When it senses something below it the engine speeds up and it goes higher again. My kids really like enjoy making it fly around the room. If it hits something it will fall to the ground and then shut off. If you are able you can grab it by the legs and then hit the button on the base twice and it will shut down.
It is better for younger kids than a remote controlled helicopter because it hovers and they can make it fly higher by simply putting a hand beneath it. What would make the product perfect is if you could simply turn on the base and the fairy started charging. However for a toy we got on sale for $35 I guess you can't have everything.
Oh and it states quite clearly on the box that this toy is NOT for outdoor use. I would suggest you follow these instructions. The fairy will fly quite high when it first launches and even the air blowing from our AC vents can push it easily around the room. Outside this thing could end up stuck on a roof or in a tree very easily.

One of the first things I noticed with this toy were the details that the toy company put into the fairy itself. The toy was beautiful, and my daughter thought so as well. The toy itself takes 6 AA batteries (which is a lot), but what these batteries make the toy do is pretty unique and cool. Seeing that the toy itself does take a lot of batteries I might recommend using lithium batteries for longevity if use. I did not try this with rechargeable batteries so do not know how well they would work with this, but it is a possibility that these may also work well. The batteries are placed in the docking station (as I call it) for the fairy and charges the fairy itself. This station is also the launching station for the fairy too. By charging your fairy and then hitting the button you are able to launch the fairy into the air and then by placing your hand underneath the fairy you can control where she goes and how high she flies.
I have to say that my daughters loved controlling heir fairy and they thought this was a very fun toy to use. As mentioned above I decided to use lithium as I surmised that I could need them, and so far they have been working great. My five and nine year old girls were able to control the fairy with no problems and the biggest problem that we had was having the girls share the fairy!
All-in-all this was a fun toy and one that I am sure that your kids will love too!

I think the concept is great but it needs more QA!!
We saw a demo at the NY big toy store. The lady doing the demo definitely made it like magic. Once your hand place under it's feet it will fly a bit higher and it was like she had total control of it. But we saw the fairy fell on the floor a couple times we didn't pay attention because it was just so magical. Both adults and kids were in awe. Then we saw it at Target at home so we bought it for my 6 years old's birthday.
However, it's a big disappointment and I'm glad I tested it before letting my 6 years old play it. We read the instruction carefully, let it charge for 30 minutes until the red light stays on. Once it's fully charged, it shot up to the ceiling and stays there. Tried it at the high ceiling and you won't be able to get it back. So I looked into the attached Troubleshooting sheet(apparently it has lots of trouble/complaint regarding those top 4 issues). Read some reviews online and saw the Spin Master customer care's response. Tried to reset, and try to press the launch button so it will stop and try to "train" it to hover to a certain height. None work. It NEVER fly like the advertisement nor like the lady that demo it that it hovers above few inches of your hand. Once your hand goes near it's feet, it will shoot up and never let you "guide" it. Multiple fall and practice and ceiling hitting with pressing the launch button to stop. Once the rotor hit my finger when trying to prevent it from hitting the wall, and it's quite painful. After second charge, still doing the same thing while there was only 1 time success that it fly around 2 feet height. When tried to guide it (like the advertisement) with my hand, it hit a wall and does not hover on my hand. Then it makes some weird sound after a fall, and it stop turning. So i thought it needs charging again. Waited for another 30 minutes until the light stop blinking. It just can never turn nor fly again. So my total play/test time was less then 15 minutes. I can't imagine how a 5-6 years old can manage or control it if not letting the rotor hitting the fingers, tangling the hair, or damaging household items. I think I shall give it one more chance if it's a defect. Will exchange for another one tomorrow but reading all the low ratings all over amazon, Target, Walmart and Toy R us, I really don't have much hope. I'm just mostly hoping to "Demo" it for my girl to let her know this is not a good design toy and maybe she should get another toy for her birthday!!!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program As you probably know by now, this product does not work all that well. It tends to go flying off randomly and smack into things. The videos showing it hovering over a child's hand must have been faked somehow, or maybe 1 in every 100 of these actually works. The valiant sales reps from the company have flooded these reviews with advice urging users to reset the fairy, and / or replace the defective one they received with a replacement. I tried the reset a few times, and did not seek replacement as obviously there seem to be more defective ones than functional ones in the hands of users...
Is this an utter failure? Heck no, my daughter loves it, and the thrill of seeing the darn thing go whirling off to smack into the ceiling or furniture had her rolling on the floor with laughter. Clearly, our little one is not the tender sensitive soul that might be distraught at a crashing fairy. The toy is immensely durable as it has survived literally dozens of collisions with various surfaces and many falls from ceiling to floor intact.
If you child would be similarly delighted with flying fairy demolition derbies. have at it. My wife and myself were both hit in the head with this thing and it stung a bit, no serious damage. (That said, it might hit someone right in the eye, in which case your injuries might be more significant...)
If you want to try to get the Divine Wind Fairy to hover, launch the fairy from your hand while sitting close to the floor in a big room with plenty of space. We did get it to hover for a few seconds over familial hands this way, but then crash, boom, off it went.
The novelty value of the constant random veering flights and crashes wears off quickly enough. Maybe you should get a Syma remote controlled helicopter that can actually be controlled by the user, works consistently, and costs the same or less than Dive Bomber Fairy? Maybe, but helicopters aren't quite as girly as fairies I guess!

My daughter who is five and one of my twin boys who is six and on the autistic spectrum could not wait for this toy. We cashed in some gift cards and I paid a bit toward the whopping price. We got her all ready and tried to launch, she shot right into the ceiling then like a moth in the house pounded against the wall. My son screamed, my daughter shut her eyes. We tried about ten more times and each time it went out of control, crashing the walls. The kids crying and me assuring them fairy magic keeps them safe. I am bringing these two items back tomorrow. Boooooooo!
