Before you read this, take in mind that I'm approaching this from an adult doll/toy-collector perpective. I'm 35 and have loved and worked for the Disney Company for many years. I have now purchased all 5 dolls, some of the outfits, the canopy bed and 3 wardrobes (which were FREE with purchase at Toys R Us). First of all, don't expect Robert Tonner quality. These are high-end play dolls. I am very picky about my hair and facial paint, so it took a while to find the "perfect" dolls. While the actual doll itself is of superior quality, the gowns they come in are just "okay" and even though the attention to detail is beautiful, they are inconsistently made. The hair is going to be diffrent on every doll, too, because they are all hand-rooted. Most little girls (and some little boys!), won't mind this...they're not picky about those little things.

Here are some tips when you decide to buy your Princess and Me doll:

* I've found that the dolls' hair is of superior quality. It's hand rooted with the highest quality kanekelon hair, so BUY YOUR CHILDREN *WIRE BRUSHES* for hair play. This will keep the hair super soft and shiny, and not cause it to frizz. I use a pet brush that has the metal bristles on one side and the brush bristles ont he other. * The Macor glass eyes are unusually expensive and of utmost beauty, but they will scratch if subjected to anything sharp.

* Belle's "Winter Gown" is the most beautifully crafted gown in the whole line. All of the seams are finished, the trim goes all around the neckline, waist and hem. The skirt is very full and is just beautiful on the doll. The gowns that the dolls come in take "short cuts", as in, only the front of the gown is embellished or printed and the back is plain satin. You can't go wrong with Belle's "Winter Gown" ensemble. Although still very beautiful, I suspect that most of the value of the doll is in the doll itself and not the gowns they come home in.

* The ballet outfits and nightgown sets are really cute and they aren't done justice in the packaging. The quality is very nice.

* The canopy bed, although very beautiful and in keeping with the theme, has a cardboard "mattress". For little ones, this will eventually wear out if they continuously put their Princess to bed and will have to be replaced. The wardrobes are well made, but just like the bed, they have a carboard backing. It seems fairly sturdy.

All in all, as a doll collector, this is a superior line of collector-quality dolls that you or your child will treasure. Ariel has always been my favorite Princess, (she's the reason I work for Disney!), and she happens to be my favorite Princess and Me doll. Her face sculpt, eyes and hair are just *STRIKING*. Your child will love to carry her Princess everywhere and show her off. I read where one parent's child carried her Ariel doll into Walt Disney World and guests kept stopping her to ask where she got it.

Depending on how this product line does, (Tiana is the hardest to find right now), I can see many products to come. More gowns themed to each Princess, more dolls, etc. I know Rapunzel is coming soon, but I would love to see Snow White and Jasmine.

For $50, this is an exceptional price.

I read several reviews of this doll on another website and I was surprised that everyone gave it five stars. My daughter received this doll last night for her birthday and she was thrilled! But, as her mom, I wish it was a lot more durable--especially for the price.

This morning she woke up after the doll had only been taken out of the package and laid on her bed (she didn't snuggle with it even) and one of the earrings was missing. I looked everywhere to no avail. The doll doesn't come with much except what the doll is wearing. It is fastened into the box with those plastic ties that go through socks, but you can't completely get them out of the doll's head. Nail Clippers will get you the closest to the sharp ends to cut them without cutting the doll's hair. If your daughter really wants this doll and loses the earrings (which will likely happen quickly), a possible solution are small jewel stickers. They don't stick for long, but you could use a hot glue gun or a bit of glue to stick them on the dolls ears. They look fine. My daughter was satisfied with this fix. I'm also not sure about how well the hair is going to do over time. It feels like it's going to get tangled very easily.

The doll will fit into other 18" doll clothes (like the My Generation or American Girl), but this dolls shoulders are narrower since it is an all plastic doll so the clothes will fit differently and hang very loosely.

If you can, I would steer your daughter to either the My Generation Dolls, the BFC Ink Dolls, or another more durable doll. Even Barbies are a lot more durable.

This doll as everyone else said is beautiful. The eyes especially really come to life. My daughter is in love with this doll but I do have one complaint. The back of the hair looks bad. The 1st one we got, when I took it out of the box a ton of hair came out. It was also greasy and it looked very scraggly and just looked like a bad dry perm that was growing out. It sure does not look at all like any of the pictures on the box or like those in the enclosed pamplet. We took it back to ToysRUs and they agreed it didn't look right. So they sent us a new one. Unfortunetly, the same thing with the 2nd. Some hair came out initially when getting her out of the box and it had a greasey messy look. But my daughter just loves the doll so we will keep this one. Just wish the manufacturer would make the back of the hair more silky and pretty. everything else about the doll is real nice, too bad the back of the hair falls short.

I absolutely love Belle!!!!! Her hair is still greasy feeling, but, I wonder, is that how the hair is made?? Who knows. Any way, like I said above, her bun is probably going to be the biggest problem with Belle, because, like someone probably said before me, it is just a bunch of short hairs gelled together into a bun, and it could come out any time. But, I am not too worried about it, because this girl is so sweet!!! Oh, and also, her tiara won't fit in her hair, but I don't mind it much because she doesn't even wear a tiara in her movie!! Overall grade? A+++++ and many more for this sweet girl!!

Lots of little extras for the price. The dog is cute and fits in the bed and the bag. Doll bends all over and can sit . Even her wrists bend. She has a ring that is cute that my 4 year old granddaughter lost even after I told her don't take off or you will lose it! All in all I think it is the best Barbie doll purchase I have made for the money. I have made a lot too!

My daughter is four soon to be five in June and she just recieved her nineth cpk for christmas. She has one from toys r us that came out before they started bringing them back and she has three big kids, three babies and two newborns. Each has its own birth certificate and we go online together every time she gets a new one and registers it online too. She really enjoys them all and is already asking for another one for valentine's day. I believe it is great for her imagination. I as a child had over sixty and they are still at my parents house, and to this day I still have all their birth certifates too. I believe they are great... Great buy!!!

I purchased this for Christmas because my 7yr old daughter loves Polly's & she loves to play in the bathtub.The very 1st time she was so excited that Polly Pocket had a boat & it went into the bath but ended up completely upset it didn't work like it should.It floats somewhat but sinks way too easy.It sinks without anything even in the boat when you move it ever so slightly,it fills with water.

They put styrofoam in the bottom to make it float but only put it on one side of the boat so it leans to one side.They didn't put enough of it in the bottom either. DON'T BUY IF YOU WANT IT FOR THE BATHTUB !!

It doesn't really float. It leans to the side and can even capsize. There are lots of holes to let the water out, it's just that the water gets in so easily. It is not weighty enough to hold an extra polly pocket on the swing in the miniature plastic piece you can use to hold one in. These are mommy's cons. The pros are that the boat has wheels on it, so it's pretty fun outside of the water.

Buy Fisher-Price Dora the Explorer Dress Up Collection Doll

"That's not Dora!" was what the little girl said when she opened the package. I was hoping this doll would look more like Dora than it does in these pictures, but the truth is she doesn't.

That being said, Dora makes a very durable doll. So far I have found her under piles of toys, in the mouth of a dog who was sizing her up for a meal, out in the rain, partly stuck in a laundry chute, and falling down the stairs. And that was before we gave it to our 3 year old granddaughter for her birthday. (Just kidding.)

Marley now seems to have accepted this doll as Dora with long hair, at least enough that she is willing to drag Dora around by said hair. I asked her if we carried her around that way when she was a baby and she said, "Yes."

Much later, it occurred to me that when we watch Dora, Dora is always wearing her trademark orange-red shorts and pink shirt. Didn't Dora used to change her clothes every program? Maybe that's Dora's clothes seem to be dresses or dress up things. It would be nice to have some doctor, explorer, Indian... almost any kind of costume for Dora.

My daughter just had to have this Dora for Christmas when she saw a picture of it. We tried to change her mind, since we already have plenty of Dora things and this doll is not inexpensive, but she was not to be detoured. I'm honestly not sure if I would recommend this doll or not. She has good and bad qualities.

Pros:

1. Every outfit comes with a different book. I like that there are original stories so the doll encourages more reading.

2. There are several outfit options, so lots of pretending options.

3. She doesn't talk or sing! (I appreciate quiet toys that require more imagination.)

Cons:

1. My daughter, three, almost four really struggles to dress her with some of the outfits. Her arms are long and hard (meaning they don't bend) so you have to get the clothes going at just the right angle or they get stuck. Very frustrating sometimes.

2. I've already had to sew all three buttons back on the jacket. They did not come attached very well, and are almost too large for the holes in the jacket, so you really have to work to get them through, thereby loosening them to the point of falling off.

3. She comes with a hair brush that will pull out hair if you aren't careful.

After putting it down in writing I would say this isn't a terrible item, and my daughter does love her, taking her on lots of adventures, but she's not worth the price. (And I even got a deal at Christmas from amazon.) And may not be a good option for a child who is easily frustrated.

Purchased the cute pink and white polka dot dress with silver sash for my daughter's American Girl doll and it fits perfectly. We also found that it fits an "Our Generation" doll equally well. The long strip of velcro on the back is easy for little hands to work. The print is bright and cute; perfect as a fun party dress. Note that the sash and rosette on the drop waist are not bright white like the polka dots on the dress, but more of a silver white. This doesn't detract at all from the overall look in my opinion, but wanted to point that out since it's hard to see on-screen when shopping online. I love shopping for doll clothes at Olivia's Doll Closet on Amazon!

The directions will not tell you this, but after many trials we've finally figured it out. First, dry the hair with a hair dryer. The colored parts will turn blond. Then you will see one streak of hair that is almost white. This is the section that you put the stencils on. Use the brush and icy cold water and it should work.

Though this one isn't too bad (once we figured it out), Mattel continues to disappoint me with just about everything they make. The plastic accessories that come with the toys are so cheap and breakable, and some things don't even stand up on their own that are supposed to. Pretty uncool for a classic brand.

My 4 yr daughter likes the doll but the shapes that are on the little clip on pc's don't

appear as they are suppose to so the best thing to do with this doll is dip its

head in cold water then hotter water.

But it did keep my daughger occupied for a lenghty amount of time and so far

2 weeks later she stll begs to make a mess on the floor dipping the dolls head

back and forth in cold and hot water.

Doll's hair is really greasy, which kind of grossed me out. My five year old daughter enjoys making the hair turn different colors, but as a previous commenter mentioned, the stencils don't work very well. The doll's hair was already different colors out of the box, and you'll need to heat the hair with a hair dryer or hot water before you can use the stencils. Otherwise its a cute doll, but I wish I had purchased the kind with the normal hair instead.

We got my daughter this doll with the expectation it would work as shown on the box and instructions... we were sorely disappointed to find it didn't. It would not change color at all until I blow dried her hair, but it quickly turns back to colored again once it cools down. The stencil does not work at all.

This doll is a joke. My 4 year old daughter decided to spend her Christmas money on this doll. The instructions that come with it appear pretty easy, however, the hair would not just change with warm or cold water. After reading reviews, thankfully someone else figured it out. You have to blow dry the colored hair and then it will work. Even then, only a small portion of the hair actually changes colors. The stencils are an absolute joke..to put it simply they DO NOT work. All hair coloring turns out like a blob.

This doll was purchased(by request)for my daughter who turned 7 this week. Without a flash it was like filming in the dark. It was fairly easy to use. The editing software was not as easy. If you have studio lighting in your home you may not have a problem. I personally feel that this issue will result in a price reduction in the near future. We have decided to get a child friendly camcorder with a "Flash" and just get another Barbie doll. Thank you.

We purchased this for our daughter's 7th birthday. She loves it! The video quality is surprisingly good for something that fits inside a Barbie doll! The audio isn't bad either. You do need quite a bit of light for recording, but we were able to record things inside the house with light just from open blinds. The editing software is a little tricky to figure out, but I was able to "produce" a 2 minute video with intros, transitions, sounds, and credits in about 30 minutes. I don't have any prior experience with editing software, and I'm sure it will get much quicker now that I've figured out how to do it. I don't think my daughter will be able to edit any videos herself, but I would rather help her anyway. Overall, I think this is a great product, and I would definitely recommend others buy this if they are thinking about it.

I'm not sure other reviewers appreciate how brilliant this is. It's a working video camera that shoots video akin to the quality you'd find from high end digital cameras a few years ago, all from a tiny camera embedded in a Barbie doll's chest!

The potential is fantastic, tapping into a new way for children to tell their stories and engage in imaginary play. Imagine getting a Barbie's Eye View of her dream house or her date with Ken. It adds another layer of possibilities to make these playworlds come alive for those participating in them.

Some reviewers are concerned, but I wonder if they're the same reviewers who would just as easily give their pre-teen or young teenage children phones with working video cameras. It's just as difficult to tell what they're doing with those phones and who they're sharing photos and videos with. That doesn't mean these devices should be banned. It means parents and caretakers need to teach their children what's appropriate. Little girls could set Barbie's hair on fire too, but most parents would say they've instilled enough of a sense of right and wrong in their kids to make sure that doesn't happen.

As for educational value, it's tremendous. Children boys and girls alike need to have a working familiarity with technology today. Transferring videos with the hot pink (hot pink!) USB cable is fairly easy, but also takes a bit of technological prowess. It takes a little more learning to figure out how to upload such videos to YouTube, Facebook, or anywhere else. You can do this with Barbie's software, or with other programs like Picasa (that works great for me). There are some drawbacks, such as sound quality that is subpar to the video quality and battery casing that requires a screwdriver, but still, this is a $45 toy and video camera hybrid, so it's impressive for what it is.

All in all, I'm impressed with the new direction toys are heading in. I'm sure it's scary for those whose most sophisticated toy growing up was a Slinky. In her own way though, Barbie Video Girl will inspire young girls and empower them to embrace technology, learn from it, and expand their storytelling horizons.

So...the AAA battery compartments are located on the inner thighs of this Barbie. You will need a teeny screwdriver and lots of batteries. I recommend getting rechargeable AAAs...will save you in the long run. My girl runs through at least one set a day if she uses it more than an hour at a time. Plugging into the computer will NOT recharge it, as this doll does not have an internal battery like the Photo Fashion Barbie.

That being said, my girl has had this doll now for around three months, and still plays with it on a DAILY basis...the full screen video playbacks on the computer are fair quality, but perfectly acceptable for kid play.
