The dolls are about 7-8 inches tall and are very stylized with rooted hair. Each has antennae, an outfit, pet, and a glow-in-the-dark base and the three besides Mae come with shoes. Since this review is about Alie so I'll focus on her. She glows through a battery operated LED backpack that plugs into her, and it works really well. She's cute but comes out of the package with a major case of "box hair". Her outfit fits well and is cute, and it has a hole in the back for her backpack. So pros and cons now.
Pros:
cute and a great concept.

Cons:
Completely inarticulated body that is 1 solid piece. Arms only bend at the shoulders, elbows/waist/wrist/knees/ankles don't move. For as much as they cost articulation would have been nice.

So I like the one I bought but I'm an adult collector. I'm worried that these will be too fragile and easily broken for kids, the arms pop right out and can get easily lost. That said they are really cute and offer some space exploration themed play if you want to try to go the educational route. :)

My 10 year old is obsessed with Novi Stars. So for her 10th birthday 4 days ago, she got Mae Talik and Allie Lectric. Wow cool look and nifty ideas for the doll's backgrounds I had high hopes.
When the birthday girl opened Alie's box, Alie's head and arm came off, but my girl was not upset "they're supposed to do that.". Uh..ok..
She was much more careful opening Mae's box. A few minutes later she's playing with both dolls, all seeming to be good. Then Mae's hair comes off and will not stay on for very long.
Alie's backpack, the source of the light that lights up her body, pops off really easily and doesn't clip in to hold very well.
Alie and Mae's dresses are ok, but the velcro that holds them on is so small the dresses "fall down a lot". The birthday girl is not deterred and is still happy with the gifts and thinks they are super cool.
A few days later my girl is still happy with the dolls, even though she has found that it's better to have them on their stands while she moves her other dolls around them, but I can see her frustration at the hair & backpack coming off all the time. I think her enjoyment has more to do with the Novi Stars website and my girl's imagination than the ability to actually play with the dolls.
Bottom line dashed hopes, disappointment and waste of money. These dolls could have been great toys if the quality assurance levels during production had been higher and a bit more attention had been paid in the doll production design instead of the website and backstory for each doll. I also wish she'd only gotten 1 doll and seen how poorly it was made before asking for another one. I predict these new dolls will not be played with after a month tops.
Best Deals for MGA Novi Stars Doll - Alie Lectric
First off, this doll is so cute! She has beautiful pink eyes with long glittery eyelashes. She also has adorable ears and a cute outfit. There's just a couple things with this toy that I don't like.
1. Not very durable. When I first touched the arms, I could tell they were very delicate and would fall off easily. If you have a kid that's a little rough with toys, keep this in mind.
2. Not very flexible. Her head and arms (at the shoulders) move, but her knees, hips, and elbows do not. One thing that's great about the MH girls is that they have a lot of pose ability.
3. She comes with a serious case of "Box Hair" with no brush. The hair seems to fall out easily and she sheds a bit.
4. With all these things in mind, do not pay what Amazon is listing as the price! I do not think this is worth the $20.00 that stores are asking for either. She's probably worth closer to $15.
In all, she's a doll that probably looks better sitting on a shelf or played with very gently. She won me over with her cuteness, so that's why I'm giving a 4 out of 5.

As a toy collector, I immediately fell in love with these dolls when I saw them and snatched up a couple.
As a toy collector, it was a great find....as a toy collector...who will never play with this doll and merely display it.
The problem lies in the fact that it feels like it would be very easily ruined, having loose joints, and hair that could easily become a ruined mess. Also they are rather inarticulated, limited to extremely few poses. I don't imagine they'd actually be much fun to PLAY with.
But if you're looking for something adorable and unique to put on display on a shelf (for your girl's room or your own), then I highly recommend it. If you're looking for a toy for your child to play with....not so much.

Really lovely doll. I love how she glows, and how you can replace her batteries!
Yes, her arms come off. Yes, you would know that if you bothered to read the instructions. It is not poor "quality control," the doll is made that way.
Yes, her head can come off and be nearly impossible to put back on. Get a sharp knife and extend the back of her head socket outward so the socket looks like a teardrop with the point towards the back of the head (carve a small triangle). You'll have no trouble putting it back on, with the added benefit of being able to turn her head now and not lose it.
I bought her with all of the outfits and a secret pet, for $12. Was not dissappointed.
