This version of Venus is really pretty. I really love the vibrant colors that are used on her...and with some black for contrast she is out of this world!! Her makeup in this incarnation is much lighter than the previous venus. She has green eyeshadow going from the lashline almost all the way up to her browbone. Her lips are a lighter shade of fuchsia pink. She still has the same great long black eyelashes and black wingtip liner. Her eyebrows are also much lighter this time and to me look like they have a little shimmer in them. This softer makeup is perfect for a summer/beach themed doll. Her hair is also slightly different. It is the same color scheme as before including the "shaved" pink flocking on the side of her head, but she has a mini pompadour poof of bangs in the front with the rest of her hair being swept into a side ponytail. The only complaint I have at all (and it is a mild one) is that my particular doll has a very sparse hairline in the front with large gaps in between the hair plugs. Her swimsuit is very bright and colorful. It is a one piece design with a pattern of black, white, fuchsia, green, and yellow stripes. At the very top of the suit is a green lucite rounded collar with a white zigzag pattern. Her shoes are adorable. The are translucent fuchsia wedges with a completely open toe design (very unique) and a strap that goes from across her instep and then up around her ankle. The straps are vines with what looks to be tiny little thorns sticking out of them, and there is also a little a little flower bud at the center of the instep. The wedge sole of the shoe has a zigzag pattern molded into it. One thing that I noticed about this Venus is that the vines around her legs and arms are a translucent lime green this time. On version one Venus they were opaque and more of a dull leafy green. I love that her hands are molded with a delicate leaf design (this is on both versions of Venus). She comes with a towel that has a zigzag design very similar to her swimsuit and using the exact same color scheme. Her sunglasses are translucent lime green and have toothlike spikes starting at the top rim of the glasses that hang down. Her bag is an adorable translucent fuchsia tote with vinelike handles and the same toothlike spikes as we saw previously on her glasses running along both the upper and lower half of the tote. She does not wear any jewelry at all. She does not come with either a stand or a brush but that is pretty much the norm now with the core/budget line of monster high dolls. I have seen pictures on flickr that show there is another version of Venus with her makeup being more like that of version one Venus. I personally have not seen one of those yet but I have seen variations in MH dolls before (usually it has to do with which country they are made in, dolls made in different factories can have subtle differences)so it is a definite possibility. Overall I really love this Venus and I think that she is both the prettiest (and hardest to find) doll in the swim class series. Don't hesitate to dig up this lovely girl and plant her in your Monster High collection!

I was excited to see a new Venus McFlytrap doll, as I just LOVE the Eco-conscious character! Her promo pictures (a set i had seen) show a variant with GREEN eyeshadow for a look that is almost Poison Ivy (you know, the enchanting DC comics villainess); a face up I was looking forward to adding to my collection! When she arrived, however, I was disappointed to see she had a face up that was nearly identical to her original release. You would think I'd be upset over it, but I got over it pretty fast. It IS nice to have a swimsuit Venus! She goes well with the other two dolls in this series, AND the Gloom Beach, and Skull Shores ghouls! For a basic doll, she comes with a bag and shoes that lend themselves to other outfits quite nicely! Her swimsuit is quite fashionable, and also versatile! It makes a great top with a jacket and skirt or shorts. She also has a matching towel that I would have liked to have seen printed on both sides, like most quality beach towels!
Venus has 11 points of articulation, and proves to be great at posing for display, play, or just those fun photo ops! She is perfect for Monster High fans of all ages, but BEST SUITED for ghouls age 9 and up. Mattel recommends ages 6 and up, but the theme and complexity of removable parts, and dressing/redressing is best for older kids. Small accessories like sunglasses, and small detachable parts, like hands DO present a choking hazard in homes with pets and small children, so CAUTION must be used to keep toddlers and pets SAFE around these dolls!
Venus and her friends are made to be durable, but that does not mean indestructible! If she is dropped from high distances, dragged from a bicycle in motion, or her limbs are wrenched, she will break! If she is played with in a NORMAL fashion doll capacity, she is sure to give endless hours of enjoyment for years to come!

I just got this doll last week for my 3 almost 4 year old daughter and it has renewed her interest in playing with her dolls. She plays with it non stop and has changed its clothes several times and the hair still looks the way it did when we bought it. It threw me off that the material is different from her other dolls, but it is still very nice.
