I'm an adult doll collector who first heard about the movie because I saw the doll at Target a while back. Now that I've seen the movie and bought the doll, I have a few things to add to this conversation. I bought this particular doll because it was the only one I could find in my mid-size Texas town, and because it was the cheapest one, which suited my limited budget. The doll is really cute, and she does resemble one aspect of Merida in the movie. Unfortunately, as a previous reviewer pointed out, this particular doll is wearing the prim and proper light-blue gown that Merida hates, instead of the dark-blue one she goes adventuring in. She also comes with a comb for her hair instead of Merida's beloved bow and arrows. Finally, even though the doll is pretty, she doesn't really have a lot of hair and her knees don't bend. She may look like Merida, but she's more like what her mother wants her to be in the movie, instead of the tomboyish moppet Merida really is. I'm satisfied with the doll because she's cute, she reminds me of Merida, and she didn't cost a lot. But if you're buying a doll for a picky child, or you don't mind spending more, you might want to get a more upscale version.

I recommend that you pay the $2 extra bucks and get it from the Disney store online. The doll actually resembles the movie character as opposed to the one sold here. How do I know, because I bought this one first! Oh, this doll is not posable... you can't even bend her knees!

We have both this doll and the version from the Disney Store. Spend a couple extra dollars and get the one from the Disney Store. The quality is worth it. Not only do you get a much more beautiful doll (it actually looks like the Merida from the show), the Disney Store version comes with accessories that my daughters love. And let's talk about hair. The hair on this doll is now a complete ratty mess. The Disney Store version is still nice despite being well loved by brushes and combs. This doll also isn't posable. Not even the knees. I'm sorry if my kids like their dolls to be able to sit and do other things besides stand. This toy now simply takes up space in our toybox.

Honest reviews on Disney/Pixar Brave Merida Doll

There seems to be some bit of controversy over this Merida doll. I've read reviews that say she's a waste of money, a cheap knock-off and that I should spend my money getting a "real Merida" doll from the Disney store. In the spirit of full disclosure, I have ordered two other "Meridas" from the Disney store Disney / Pixar BRAVE Movie Exclusive 11 Inch Classic Doll Merida & Disney / Pixar Brave Movie Exclusive 16 in Toddler Doll Merida. Why did I not order them from Amazon? They were half the price at the Disney store when I ordered them but whereas this Merida doll has arrived and is ready for Christmas, the Disney store took ten days just to ship the above-mentioned two and are still on the road. Why three Merida dolls? Three daughters of three different ages with three different maturity levels.

This Merida doll is made by Mattel but is Disney-approved. She is wearing the dress that Merida wore in the movie when the heroine was seemingly about to be married off. She is absolutely lovely looking and though her hair is not as wild as some might like it, she does not appear to be a vacuous Merida version of Barbie either. My daughter is absolutely sure to love her as she likes the dainty looking type dolls. Whereas the so-called "official" Merida with bow and arrow may have the more rugged appearance of the fiery red-headed princess from Brave, this Merida doll is every bit is lovely. She simply has a different design and is styled to represent a different aspect of Merida.

This doll is not fully articulated but for the age level of the daughter I am giving her to, this is not a problem. In fact, I would say she is more age-appropriate because she does not have as many moving parts. But she appears extremely well put together with a lovely expression that shows off the softer side of Merida that some girls might appreciate more than the rough and tumble version. And as I have preschoolers to consider, she is very age appropriate for not having a bow or arrow that I have to worry about my little ankle biters choking on.

In conclusion, I feel that this doll is well put together and doesn't deserve the one star pannings she has received by folks saying that she is somehow "less than" the so-called "official" Merida found on the Disney Store website. As a father of three daughters, I have to be sensitive to not only age-appropriateness and individuality but also of quality and safety. Had I even a moment's concern that this doll was somehow substandard or put together poorly, I would be the first to pull the one star lever. But this Merida doll made by Mattel is of good craftsmanship, quite lovely and exactly appropriate for the girl she is going to be given to. So don't you be believin' she's not a Merida because she's not a "Disney Store" Merida. Different? Yes. But every bit Merida and I am quite certain that any little girl would be thrilled to receive her at Christmas, for a birthday or just as a surprise gift. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope I was helpful to you. Merry Christmas.

The doll is okay although it doesn't look like the doll from the disney movie. Also the dolls knees and elbows don't bend.
