This is her second Barbie, having received her first a few weeks prior, also a ballerina Barbie, from Dollar General. Anyhow, I guess I thought the quality would be better, considering this is a premier doll based on a book, and, I believe, movie. Compared to the dolls of the 80's and early 90's, I was sorely disappointed.
Her legs do not bend at the knee joint. Her legs are made from a very different plastic. The older dolls used to have rubber legs. Her hair was cheaply layered and does not reflect the manicured look of the picture...at all. Overall, the quality from Barbies of the past was downgraded.
I suppose it was worth the cost when I purchased her on sale, but I would not pay any more than $8.00 for this doll.
But, I am also aware that since I am entering "Barbie Land" for the first time in over two decades, toys overall are cheaply made these days, while the costs are ever increasing. Maybe I won't enter this land after all. She actually did not play with this doll really at all, so perhaps my sentiment is shared by my little girl. If this is the case, we are both more fortunate to enjoy sitting on the couch reading together about this doll. I daresay the imagination is encouraged more in growing this way, plus, I bond with my daughter.

Bought this for my 6 year old, since she and her sister LOVE the Barbie in the Pink Shoes movie. She opened it on Sept 13 and they have been playing various Barbie in the Pink Shoes games almost continuously ever since. I'm glad she doesn't have the pre-formed bodice, it makes it easier to dress her in other costumes. My girls love to dress the barbies up in other clothes, and I have made lots of princess type barbie dresses so the ability to change her outfit is big in our house. We've enjoyed this barbie!
