My 4 yr old daughter loved getting this Barbie head. She tried to use the hair accessories that came with it but they were flimsy and hard to handle. She had more success with using her own hair ties and barrettes. SHe has since lost interest since the hair snags a lot and comes out a little each time she brushes. Better for an older child who can be more careful with the hair.Tuesday, July 22, 2014
Review of Barbie Totally Hair Styling Head
I have a 6yr old girl who loves doing her hair and the hair of her barbies, so this was a natural gift. The review of this will depend on if you talk to me or to her. She loves it; slept with it at night the first day of having it. Barbie get's all kind of crazy dos. My daughter doesn't seem to be bothered by the fact that hair comes out with each brushing and that the once shiny smooth locks are on their way to a mangled mess (although she does notice it). (The comb they supply is just silly it's so useless.) I am not sure why they can't make hair that doesn't instantly tangle. The barettes are not easy to clip in, probably due to the fact that they are flimsy. As you might expect, the jewels adn the jewel tool supplied are a waste of plastic. Our tool did not work; jewels did not come out when applied to the hair (it's the claw part of velcro that is to hold the jewel in her hair). It was easier to take the jewel in your hand & stick it where you wanted. We never tried it in our oun hair; I doubt it would have worked any better. However, my daughter doesn't really care about this; she's got a ton of play jewelry and hair accessories that she uses instead of what they supplied. She's wanted to bring a spray bottle into her room to work on hair styles, but with a 3yr old brother nearby, that's a disaster (or fight) waiting to happen. But it's clear she enjoys the pretend play aspect of it (which is why I gave 3 stars for education and 5 for fun). We've had this head for about a month with no breakage, but the head has not been subjected to anything really bad. She is a bit top heavy which makes working on her a bit awkward. Any more expensive and I would say you are wasting your money, but for the price & how much my daughter loves it, it's a good purchase. It is disapointing that they don't design it better, however what do you want for $20? I've seen styling heads with real hair for kids (about $60), so if you hope to have the styling head last longer & be more useful, Barbie isn't the way to go. But for the few years my daughter will play with this, it's a good deal, or at least the best I could find. I gave it a total of 3 stars because I can't get over all the hair that comes off her head. If it were not for that it would have gotten 4, maybe even 5. Despite the hair loss, you'll be happy to know Barbie is not bald yet.
