This particular mermaid is a bit different from the others in the set. She ends up being the main antagonist for Barbie's Merliah character Kylie Morgan, a surfing competitor from down under. She is originally an Australian human but steals Merliah's necklace so she can transform into this mermaid in the movie. Since she has such a major part in the movie (while, in comparison the other mermaids only have minor roles), she's the best one to get if you only want to get one mermaid doll.
The doll has brown hair with purple woven in. All of the tail and the top are molded onto the body and have very little in the way of extra detailing. This one has a bit of purple and pink air brushed on but that's about it. She does bend a little bit but not much. Her tail doesn't spin or move it just clicks in. She isn't really posable all arms and tail/legs are molded and not articulated.
Unlike the other cultural dolls, she doesn't really have much that says, "Australia". She's just a regular jeweled Barbie doll. But then again, since she has such a large part in the movie, she's the one to get.
My doll came with a damaged back area of her tail looks like it was put into the packaging before the vinyl set and it looks bad. But my 8 year old doesn't really care.
In all, these are very inexpensive and make good toys in and out of the bathtub. The price means they lack some details but the price also makes it easy to get the entire set to play along with the movie.

My daughters love the Barbi movies, which is what prompted us making this purchase. They wish it could change back and forth from tail to legs, but that just isn't how it is made. For what it is, we have no complaints.
