I purchased this doll, Trichelle, from my local Toys R Us, for my 9 year old daughter for Christmas. It wasn't on her list, but she likes playing with her Bratz Sasha Styling Head, so I thought she would enjoy this. There was a barbie I used to have in the 80's that had gold wire strands throughout the hair so you could curl it.(I think it was called Golden Dream Barbie or something like that). So I was excited when I discovered this one. All the dolls in the So In Style line are beautiful. The hair is soft & the outfits are really cute. I chose Tricelle because she reminded me of my daughter & I liked her outfit the most. You are suppose to spray the hair with water with the little spray bottle that is provided. Then you use the plastic curling iron to curl the hair. It does curl, but the curls only last about 5 seconds. By the time you get to your second or third curl, the first has fallen. My daughter gets a little fustrated with it, because she wants to curl all the hair. If the curls lasted longer, she would play with it more. The chair is a little flimsy, and her necklace broke on day 5, but the extensions and hair accesories are cute. Overall, the doll itself is very nice. My daughter wants to be a hairdresser when she grows up, so when we see a doll like this, we buy it for her. It's right up her alley. Well when we bought this one, we bought another one with it: Barbie Teresa Glamour Surprise Doll (2001) That other one is the one she LOVES. Its chair fits a Barbie more securely than this one, and its hair changes color with a real blow-dryer.This one is pretty, but not half as much fun as the Teresa doll with a similar salon chair. Trichelle is so urban chic, comes with lots of Beauty Shop accessories. She's awesome! SIS dolls are 12" tall, made of vinyl and come in 5 different skin shades. New to the line, Marissa(Hispanic), has very light skin; Trichelle, is also very light, Grace is mocha colored; Kara is brown skinned and Chandra is a dark chocolate. Some of these dolls come articulated (jointed) at the elbows, wrist, and knees, others may have just bending knees, and still others are non bending.The SIS doll line is considered playline (mass produced for children), but adult collectors have been paying collector prices ($25 and up) for this line of dolls for the last 2 years. If you don't live in a large ethnic community you won't find many if any of these beautiful dolls. For that reason, we are pushed into paying 50% or more over retail value.
When buying from Amazon (not sellers using Amazon to sell their goods like Ebay, because like Ebay the prices are much higher) you'll get a "closer to retail price" , in other words a reasonable price. Hey, just take a look on Amazon under SIS Trichelle and you will fine the set of Trichelle and Chandra going for over $300. I purchased the same set 2 years ago for $28 right here on Amazon.
To get a reasonable price on SIS dolls, you have to look on Amazon frequently because the prices change alot. Once these dolls become hard to find you will pay alot for them!
