Then I found Corolle dolls at a local non-chain toy store. Lovely...but whoa, that price tag. And though I would have love to support my local shop, their price was twenty bucks more than amazon's! One thing I was thankful for was to see the three sizes up close. The 12" doll is really tiny and the larger model is quite large. Corolle's 14" doll was just what we were looking for, and apparently has the most options in terms of clothes and other accessories.
This doll is quite possible the perfect baby doll (and this is dad writing this!). It has just enough fragrance to make it endearing, not nauseating. It has the perfect weight not too heavy, not too light. The head is perfectly balanced with the body. The baby's thumb, bottle, and pacifier all press neatly into her mouth so even my 2-year-old can do it (other dolls require a hammer to smash the cute little thumb into the mouth). The doll, clothes, and accessories are all very well made and should hold up for many years (probably past her love for it...). If you can get past the price tag, I guarantee that your little one will love this doll for many years.

I bought this Bebe Charmeur doll for my daughter's 2nd birthday. She loves it, and was playing with it before I got it out of the box. My 4 year old son was actually very taken with it as well, and asked for a doll for the first time in his life! Bebe Charmeur seems like a quality product. It is not too heavy and not too light, it has a weighted bottom so that it can sit up, the eyes open and close smoothly, etc. Most of the accessories are already lost, of course, but my daughter gets a kick out of making this doll suck her thumb and go "night-night." She sleeps with it and wants to take it everywhere. I decided on this particular brand after looking for the safest doll possible that is still a vinyl doll. My daughter is really drawn to the look of these dolls and didn't have one. This doll, while made in China, complies with both U.S. and European safety standards (it is marked as such on the box and carries the CE stamp). I am aware that there is some risk with all vinyl dolls, but my hope is that this one is as safe as they come. The Corolle dolls are pricier than I would like, but I wanted something durable and safe. My only quibble is that it is oh so PINK! I am not a huge fan of pink, but of course half the fun of having a doll is changing her clothes! My daughter is 20 months and absolutely love this doll. The doll is absolutely beautiful. I have to admit that the shoes that come with the doll are IMPOSSIBLE to put on her feet, but otherwise she is perfect. I'm so happy I chose this doll.
