Kanani Akina is 1/4 Hawaiian, 1/4 Japanese (from Dad), and 1/4 French and German (from Mom.) I too would have enjoyed black hair and deep brown eyes, but Kanani is bi-racial and this is explained in her Meet paperback book.

I am an adult collector since 2006, and buy one historical AG doll per year. Kanani is my first "modern" doll and is my absolute favorite. Her hair feels like a child's hair, soft and damp. I chose to straighten her curls after owning her a year because I primarily bought her for her face mold and length of hair (to her knees). It is easy and fun to style once you watch the tutorials on YouTube. Kanani is a durable girl and pals around with me. She is subject to frequent outfit changes and thanks to her olive/medium skin tone, looks fabulous in anything Hawaiian or not though I did choose to purchase the AG clothing line made especially for her. She bears the "Jess" mold (GOTY 2006) and her eyes are a blazing hazel. Put it all together and she's a dream-come-true dolly. Her sundress is ocean blue punctuated with tiny sequins, blue ruffled sandals, pink panties, and an authentic looking kukui nut necklace though the nuts are not real. She wears a durable floral hibiscus clip in her hair.

I own some incredible dolls. Kanani (and all my AG dolls) are in the same class. Buy her if you can, she's well worth the price.

I bought Kanani's World from American Girl. It is amazing!! We will be giving it to our daughter for Christmas, she's only 3, but there is no MAG that looks like her. Our daughter is half caucasin/have Arabic. She has my husband's dark skin & my light hair, so Kanani is perfect!! For the woman who said she has blond hair, Kanani's hair is light brown/dishwater blond. In the books, Kanani is also bi-racial. She couldn't be cuter!! Can't wait for Christmas morning!!

that my daughter got for christmas last year. The sleigh is a must for this doll. Way cute.
