Of all the Madame Alexander 18" dolls I bought for my granddaughter recently, this doll has the most beautiful face. I didn't care for the outfit, but redressed in other outfits, she is a really lovely doll. The MA dolls don't stand on their own generally, although I did manage to balance a couple of them to stand, but the best feature about these dolls is that their fabric body starts mid-chest, so clothes that have a low neckline don't expose the fabric body and look great on the MA dolls. They also have very nice rotary flexibility in their shoulders and hips, so poses are more natural and less stiff than, say, the Our Generation dolls and American Girl Dolls. First the good.....lovely face, skin, clothing, shoes and quick shipping......and now the BAD!.....while the arms and head are well connected to the body,the legs are not....they are so "wobbly" that the doll will not stand up.......NOT wavy pretty hair as shown in picture, but........horrible, fuzzy, cottony, messy hair.....right out of the box!!!!The box looked like it had been opened....the tape on the lid was undone..........the twisty fastners had obviously been re-done...this so looks like a USED doll!! I thought about sending it back, but seems like a lot of trouble to do and and I can't be guaranteed of a full refund...plus the cost to ship it back.Am so angry about the whole transaction!!!!! I cannot give this doll to my granddaughter.......I will now purchase an American Girl doll for her birthday..........twice the money, but guaranteed to arrive new and able to stand up and with a lovely head of hair.

I purchased this doll and one other Madame Alexander doll for my girls' (4 yrs & 7 yrs) birthdays. This was my first 18" doll purchase, so keep in mind that I have no other brand of 18" dolls to compare to. Like many parents who buy these and other "off-brand" dolls, I wanted something other than the American Girls my daughters wanted since AG cost so much.Her face ( mold, paint, skin) is gorgeous & soft; I expected no less from a Madame Alexander doll. Very pleased in this area.
Her clothes are high quality; the dress and hair-bow fabric is bright and thick and MUCH better than what I expected. The bright glitter-pink slip underneath the dress is thin and not much of anything, really. The dress, though is smooth and again, just high quality. Her shoes are a thick plastic that fit perfectly and don't slip off while the doll is being carried around. We have bought other store-brand clothes and shoes, and they have all fit great (target, ac moore, & ebay)
Her hair: GORGEOUS..for about a day. The blonde is MUCH brighter than what it looks like in the photo; its your run-of-the-mill bleach blond color. We bought the recommended doll-wire-brush, and still so much hair sheds out during styling that I have to do it outside. A week later, I can get the hair up in a ponytail, but nothing more. I just pull it up in a bun and clip a big flower on it to hide the disaster. Like most of the comparable 18" dolls, this doll does have hair plugs, but you can NOT see them at all. There are no bald or awkward thin spots at all. --THIS IS IMPORTANT: My other Madame Alexander doll I purchased for my older daughter has silky straight hair that we LOVE LOVE LOVE. We haven't even had to brush it in the last week; my daughter just smooths it down with her hand. And she actually plays with her doll; lugging it around, changing outfits, etc-and still the hair is as great as the day we took it out the box. So I would NOT avoid this brand because of hair, but simply buy one with smooth, strait hair.---
I'd also like to mention something I find to be annoying, but may not bother other people: her neck is wobbly. It doesn't flop around, but it also doesn't take much to move it. When I attempted to braid the dolls hair in a failed attempt to control the unruly mass of blonde hair, I had to get my daughter to hold her head because it moves with the slightest pull of the hair. Its not terrible, but I do worry about it becoming looser later.
Amazon's shipment and service was amazing as always.
***Bottom line: I would most definitely recommend this doll and know I will buy again-BUT it will be a doll with STRAIGHT hair.

I was looking for a blond haired blue eyed doll for my granddaughter for Christmas. This doll (at least the one I received) has green eyes and the hair is a hot mess. The dress and shoes are very cute and appear to have been well made. I haven't taken the doll out of the box to get a better look at it because I am still debating on whether to return it. Other reviews for Madame Alexander Dolls have mentioned hair issues. We all know what the hair will look like as soon as a 6 year old starts brushing it, but I was hoping it would, at least, look good on Christmas morning. While not as expensive as an American Girl doll, it still wasn't inexpensive. I expected better for a Madame Alexander doll.
