Skelita Calaveras the skeleton girl is one of the most beautiful Monster High dolls I have ever seen. It might not seem like a skull could be cute or sweet, but her expression and markings are completely charming.

Skelita has a different body than the other dolls, a true skeleton body. If you look at the posted review photos you can see she comes with a clear plastic body overlay under her clothes that helps keep her on her doll stand and gives her more of a figure under her dress. Her clothes are festive and fit her perfectly. If you look at the heels of her shoes and her belt you can see tiny impressions of skulls and flowers. Like the other deluxe Scaris dolls Skelita comes with a travel case hers is bright pink with a skull on the front.

Skelita has a delicate quality, figuratively and literally. The tiny bones on her hands are a little bit flexible to help keep them from breaking. My doll came with one elbow bent into a pose, and the other arm does not want to bend I do not want to force it. Her knees also are not bending for me, but I can overlook this as the lower legs rotate in the knee sockets and can achieve some neat poses.

Skelita's hair is fashioned into a high pony tail with orange highlights around her face that complement her very well. I will warn shoppers that I saw a Skelita doll in a retail store yesterday and her hair was an absolute rats nest. I have also seen where the paint of her nose has rubbed off onto the plastic of the box. If you can, buy her in person so you can look her over, and pay the retail price.

I am writing this from a collectors perspective, and Skelita is a beautiful, unique doll that I am very glad to own.

(As usual, this review is from a collector who does not remove dolls from boxes.)

When I saw pictures of the new Scaris line a few months ago, I loved every single doll ... except Skelita. I understood the cultural references behind the design, but Day of the Dead stuff always creeped me out a bit. I'd decided she would be the one doll from the line besides Deuce I wouldn't purchase. Fast forward to a month ago. Once people began to post their own pictures of Skelita, I began to reevaluate my opinion of her. The creepiness gradually gave way to the beauty that is Skelita and what she represents. The more I looked at her, the more I was wrong to write her off as "ugly".

Her painted face, with the pink lips, blue shadowed eyes, and the dab of black on her nose against her white "skin", soon became adorable to me instead of weird. The pure skeletal body is clever; her arms and legs are what I gaze at the most. The streaks of orange in her black hair evoke a Halloween-ish feeling. The vibrant colors on her little dress are amazing. Her shoes are cute. Though, the handle resembling a SPINE jutting from the top of her suitcase is a bit disconcerting. But, hey, it's Monster High they gotta push the limits a little! The cheerful pink color of the case itself helps offset the semi-disturbing aspect.

I rated her five stars in the educational area because Skelita spurred me to research Día de los Muertos in depth. I've discovered things about the holiday I didn't know before and that's when Monster High (or any toy) is at its best when it creates an opportunity for a child (or an adult, in my case!) to learn something and appreciate the world around us.

I love this doll so much now. Skelita Calaveras is a MUST for any Monster High collector.

I purchased the skeleton add on kit for my daughter last year and she loved it so I got Skelita for her too. It was a major hit. The doll has great detail and the torso is bones! A very unexpected but deeply appreciated treat! Skelita is made from a softer plastic than the add on skeleton girl but she is still pretty durable. She wears a black mini dress with a colorful over skirt and has a brown bracelet, belt, and green clogs with very realistic looking cork on the bottom portion of the shoe. Her hair is black with orange highlights and her makeup looks like a sugar skull from the Day of the Dead. Her eyes are brown and her eyeshadow is blue. Because she is a skeleton she has no ears or earrings. My daughter says that Skelita is her new favorite doll.

Honest reviews on Monster High Travel Scaris Skelita Calaveras Doll

Death culture and dollsit doesn't get any better than that. Skelita is Mexican, possibly dead, and gorgeous. My review system will tell ya what's up.

Ole:

-Hair is thick, loose, and layered. All black at back. Has a slight bump for volume at back crown (invisible ponytail).

-Comes with necklace (not sure about design) that is held in place with clear band and a "leather" bracelet (soft plastic) with etchings...I could not make out much, but I could definitely see some skulls on it.

-Belt is just like bracelet, but with more etching.

-Cotton halter dress has Velcro at back and neck, purple satin piping and pink satin piping on either side adjacent to armpits, and a Mexican print with skulls within marigolds. Print is gray on black (see pic).

-Colorful overskirt has three tiers with bats, spiders, webs, safety pins, ribcages, crossbones, various bones, flowers, moons, hearts, MH skull, etc as the print. Made of stiffer material with elastic at waist. Raggedy on purpose.

-Shoes are sensible sandals with etchings again on heels. Easy to get on and off. They stay put.

-Skel has no ears, so you do not have to worry about earrings.

-Tougher construction than you think. Hands are soft plastic/rubber.

-Beautiful facial designs.

-Comes with stand, brush, suitcase, and travel journal.

No-le:

-Suitcase dose not stay latched. Everything inside will fall out if you place it lid-down. Does roll.

-Skel cannot pull suitcase, so forget about recreating that "Charlie" ad with her.

-Since necklace is supported with band, will it fall off if said band is removed? That has happened before to us...

-Journal has neat photo clips and illustrations, but is too short for my taste. Needs to pack a punch by containing more of anything.

Skulls up: Skelita comes with a plastic base supporting her torso when you get her. It is under her outfityou can't even notice it. My daughter has not removed it as of yet. I do not know if it is present for general support or for "we want her to look great in the box so you buy her" reasons.

Great price here at Amazonthis is what we paid at Wal-Mart. Do not panic about these "holiday" bestseller dollsthey seem to hit cities right before Xmas, and then they hit the burbs right after New Year's Day. Mattel does re-release them, also. I love the cultural aspects of this doll. We are going to attempt to make sugar skulls soon. Skelita es numero uno. Adios!
