My 5 year old daughter received this as a gift. She's not really into Barbie or fairies, but she did enjoy decorating this Barbie. The only issues I had with the doll are that the "magic" wand used to decorate the Barbie doesn't work flawlessly. The velcro flowers are loaded into the wand's tube, but when the child presses the wand against Barbie's wings to decorate, the flowers sometimes get lodged in the tube and have to be tugged a bit to make them come all the way out and unfold. Also, unless your child is old enough to make and remember a pattern when placing the flowers into the tube, she won't know which color flower is coming out next and thus, may not be able to decorate Barbie in exactly the way she wants (Of course, this is quickly remedied by simply picking the flower off and placing it elsewhere, but then, then fun of the wand is taken away). The other issue I had with this doll is more of a personal preference thing. While Barbie's wings attach very securely and this makes for a sturdier doll to play with, the same factor can be a hindrance. It doesn't seem possible to remove the wings without risk of breaking off the mechanisms that hold them in, and thus, it makes this particular Barbie hard to store away when not in use. Her large wingspan makes it a challenge to fit her into a storage container, but I realize this may be different for different people as we all have varied toy boxes, shelves, buckets, etc in our children's rooms. Overall, a pretty doll and I can see where children who really love fairies will have fun with her, but if your child isn't really into Barbies or pretend play that much, I think the flower decorating fascination will fade quickly.

The big plus of this doll is the wing design. Mattel has been failing on the durability factor for some years now when it came to dolls with wings. This doll has big wings that are sturdy & are attached to the doll's back in a way that is less likely to break. The parts that plug into the doll's back are large, thick & the grooves are deep in the doll. Mattel scored big with this design: I hope they repeat it.

Another plus is the overall look of the doll. She is pretty and the velcro flower decorations were a really great idea and work really well. I wish they had put more in the package. The felt wings make it easy to make other decorations for the doll. You can buy felt squares in any craft section of Wal-mart or in a craft store & cut out & create a wide variety of things.

The only negative factors are as follows:

1the doll's legs do not bend. This seems to be getting more common with Mattel Barbie. Not really sure why unless it is to save money.

2The doll is made of the cheaper plastic material like you find in the Barbie knockoffs in the dollar stores. Again, I would assume this is to save (make) more money. It wouldnt bother me so much if not for the fact that the price of the dolls are going up. If you are determined to use a cheaper plastic for the toy, dont charge me more.

Besides the 2 negatives, the doll is a big hit in our house.

I gave this gift to my god daughter and she loved it...even though she's only 2 years old (and it's suggested for 3+). The kids were all fascinated with the flower wand. My only gripe is that I was under the impression her wings change colors. They don't.
