My 6 year old has wanted an American Girl doll for over a year now. We bought Target's version much cheaper last year (Our Generation) for her to practice taking care of first. These dolls are high quality and are meant to be collectables and therefore need to be treated as so. There is a reason they are so expensive and popular...they are really wonderful dolls. Julie comes with a some neat accessories, but I agree with the other sellers...buy her from American Girl. The prices are inflated because people don't check the real site. I'd check there first and go from there.
Julie has the softest and most amazing hair I have ever seen. The other dolls' hair can be rather hard to handle, but I use a spray bottle with water and the American Girl wire brush. I have braided the other doll's hair to keep it nice when the girls are not playing with them. Julie's hair is quite an exception...it is long, soft and staight. Her hair feels the most like real hair out of any doll's hair I have ever felt.

My husband and I purchased this doll for my daughter for her 1st communion last month. This was her 1st AG Doll and I have to say she really loves her. She has brushed her hair and has had no problems whatsoever with her hair getting tangled. Her clothes are just darling and well made. Her skin is a bit darker than the doll actually looks but she is still very nice. We did purchase our doll through the american girl doll website so we got a better deal and some freebies on top of it. I wanted an 18 inch doll to make doll clothes for so I went on the American Girl website and selected the "Julie" model along with doll food items, a stand, and a hair brush. I figured buying the doll for $105 on AG would save me dough since the same model on Amazon was $154. Due diligence being the best path in the marketplace, I priced all the same items on Amazon including taxes, shipping, and handling. What a good thing I did!!On the AG site the doll was $105, the doll food items were $68 for a play bowl, fruit, pitcher, and cup (all proper scale). The stand was $18. All the other items were identical.
On Amazon I couldn't find the exact same play food but I got a chef's outfit AND a full set of cooking tools AND a full set of baking tools (all proper scale). The 18 inch stand I purchased came in a set of two and was sturdier than the official AG stand.
But the delivery was the best of all! The AG site said the cost was $236 and I would get it between 9/11 and 9/14. Amazon charged me $245 for much better and more products and TWO stands instead of one, arriving on September 7th!
Way to go, AMAZON!!

My daughter who is 6 years old absolutely loves this American Girl doll! She loves the long beautiful hair that she can comb and arrange in different styles and she also adores all her pretty clothing. She has had lots of fun with Julie and she is looking forward to have more playtime with her. It has also been wonderful for her to share this doll with her friends.
