This doll is just beautiful. The quality is better than I expected and the pictures don't do her justice. Her vinyl is soft to the touch, and her face has a lot of character. Her hair is long to her waist with some layering. It is a little course, but it softened up a little with gentle brushing. I used the American Girl wig brush. The yellow bow in her hair goes all the way around her head and has a snap at the back for ease; no need to retie the bow. The vest is fully lined and made of a rich purple satin. Her pleated skirt is fully serged and hemmed with ribbon along the bottom, not just colored fabric. The bookbag she comes with is a soft, sturdy leather material and would hold a couple of small books. It has 2 snaps for a closure, which I think is a great play feature. Her thigh high socks stay up well, and the black buckled Mary Jane shoes are very cute. The shoe buckles take some dexterity to manage because they are so small, and they have no pin.

Compared to American Girl, she is much smaller overall despite being the same height. Measurements in inches: The calf of AG is 5.25, Kohanna 4.5. AG elbow 4, Kohanna 3.5. AG crown 12, Kohanna 10.5. AG waist 11, Kohanna 9.5. The Carpatina website has an excellent picture for a visual comparison.

Overall, she's a beautiful, excellent quality doll with a more mature appearance than the AG. She reminds me more of vintage style 18" dolls than AG, and I'm very happy to add her to my collection and sew for her.

I just bought Kohanna for my niece. She already has the American Girl Jess. We have a number of Carpatina slim bodied dolls and love them. They are beautiful and their clothes are exquisitely made. I bought them to go with our Magic Attic dolls since their clothes are interchangeable, unlike the American Girl dolls. These fantasy dolls have accurately designed costumes (like the Magic Attic dolls and American Girl Historical dolls) to travel in time and location, thus making learning history and geography fun. The difference from those other dolls are these do not come with books.

Carpatina has the Girlfriends Collection clothing specifically for the American Girl Dolls and we have a number of them also. I bought the Chinese and Japanese outfits, as well as, a couple of dresses for my niece's Jess. She was so excited to get them.

We love Carpatina dolls, clothes, and patterns. Great quality merchandise that you can not go wrong buying. The girls love them. Just remember they are a none cloth slim body doll unlike the cloth full body of the American Girl doll.

This doll is breath-takingly beautiful and very high quality. She is the first Carpatina doll I have purchased, and I will certainly purchase others. Because she is fully vinyl, she is not exactly the same size as the cloth-bodied AG dolls, and some of the AG clothing will not fit precisely; however, the full vinyl body creates a much more realistic looking doll who is more fun to dress. Her necklines to not have to be high to cover a cloth body, and if you so desire she can even wear a swimsuit and look great in it, as opposed to the cloth body dolls who appear so unrealistic and odd-looking when any of the cloth happens to be exposed. When not "at play", she stands on her own on a shelf. Her hair is lovely and thick, her open/close eyes are very attractive, and her skin-tone warm and pleasant. Beautiful, beautiful high-quality doll.

The advertisement states that this doll is similar to an American Girl; however, it is different in significant ways. The 'extra' outfit that is reccommended you buy with the doll falls off the doll because this doll is significantly thinner than American Girl. The shoes on the doll were very difficult and I dont believe any child could take them on and off. The shirt had a mildew or other stain and one of the snaps was about to fall off teh vest. I sent it back. Carpatina says its Amazon.com's fault/responsibility about the description/advertising that says this doll is similar to the American Girl doll and that the "extra' outfit suggested was done so by Amazon.com. Carpatina says it had nothing to do with either of these features. It cost me a lot for postage and shipping to buy and return. At any rate, no more Carpatina for me, and I will probably limit my purchases with Amazon.com since the description may or may not be accurate. Maria Horton
