The big box store selling these had a display where you press the button and the "shelves" smoothly rotate. Unfortunately, this toy is not battery operated and when you hand crank it, the shelves get stuck as they turn around. When you get the shelf to the top with the item your Barbie wants, the slide thing has to be perfectly lined up, or it won't move. Easy to figure out if you are older, but this was a present for a 5 year old and if the shelves stick, she tries to turn the crank harder. She got so frustrated she asked me to return it. So, it's going back. Terrible product, cheaply made. In the instructions they inform you that the back is removable to get out shoes/purses that might get stuck. You can bet that if they took the time to put this feature in and tell you about it, that you'll be removing the back ALL the time to retrieve lost items. I got this for her 7th birthday, and had it sent to her. Opening her gifts at her party, she grabbed this one first and after she opened it, she and her little friends started playing with it right away! Her mom said out of all the gifts she got, she loves this one the best!
