Away she goes! We were so excited to get these dolls, we asked the supervisor of the store to pull them out of the back. If your wondering what the difference is between the regular dolls and the deluxe dolls, as this Rainbow Dash is Deluxe, its fairly simple; The deluxe dolls have more flexibility, an extra set of clothes, boots, earrings, backpack, wings, hair attachment, bracelet, etc. In my opinion it is worth the extra price, because the doll also doesn't have a painted on top, real clothes all the way! And who doesn't want an extra outfit for our beloved Rainbow Dash to change into? Rainbow dash has soft hair, beautiful features, and of course her signature cutie mark on her cheek. Don't miss out on this one!

Okay, if you and/or your child really want/need to buy one of the Equestria Girls, I very much recommend the Deluxe sets (Rainbow Dash or Fluttershy). The dolls in them are actually a little better designed (extheir legs bend at the knees and the hair seems thicker), and they come with extra shoes/feet. The rest of the dolls really aren't worth purchasing for full retail price (and I really question if these are totally worth it for twenty clams). Rainbow Dash is very cute--the best looking of the bunch. Her color is fantastic and the hair-color is very fun. It's such a shame Hasbro spent so much time on design of these dolls and skimped so much on quality, but I digress. This toy is totally a mixed bag. As a mom of an imaginative little 4 year old, I'm not impressed, but got her anyway as Rainbow Dash is my girl's favorite. As a collector, I find it's one of the few dolls from the Equestria Girls collection worth owning, but they are really all just novelty--not really true to the show/movie or even high in quality.
First point first, these dolls look nothing like the characters from the "Equestria Girls" movie. They look more like a product of weird MLP Furry fanfic instead. Some kids won't care about this, but many will notice it as soon as they see them and find that disappointing. Their quality is a mixed bag. The faces are painted beautifully with glossy paint and glitter. I'm not a big fan of heavy makeup on dolls, but Hasbro made their faces a mixture of whimsical, but tasteful and cute.
The styles of clothing are cute, too. The dresses/skirts tend to be a bit short, but they are girly-enough (not "sexy") looking that it's not too offensive.
However, the quality really stops there. The way the clothing is sewn is a nightmare! It is cute, but still cheap and poorly-made. A lot of the dolls' clothes aren't hemmed on the bottom and are or will quickly become ragged with play. The seams on some of the clothes are starting to fall apart in the box. It's a shame Hasbro had to be so cheap as they already got around the clothing costs by making a lot of the dolls' tops painted on the body.
This wouldn't be a biggie as fashion doll clothes can be exchanged with other brands or hand-made by a talented child/parent/collector. However, any creativity on making future clothes is limited by the shoes. They are part of the feet. As a parent and toy collector, this trend really bothers me to begin with. It is really gross and creepy taking off the shoes on the footless dolls. The nobs that hold the feet on look like bones. It also sends the really negative messege to girls that shoes are more important than feet. Yuck!
As a parent, I find this very impractical and wasteful as the shoe/feet can be easily lost and you end up with a doll who forever looks like an amputee--a lovely marketing technique to force you to buy future (cheaply-made) outfits to buy more "feet." If you are a parent who is concerned about losing feet (or have a child who'd be disturbed by this), it may be good to break out the super-glue and tell your little one the feet are part of the doll. Come on, Hasbro--these girls were PONIES. They need their feet. At least make them into hooves if you are too cheap to make actual feet.
Second, the bodies on the Equestria Girls in the smaller packages are very cheap. Only the ones in the deluxe fashion sets bend at the knee (the more expensively-priced Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy). The ones from the smaller sets have legs that are stiff plastic--so if having articulation is important to your child (or you) stick with Rainbow Dash or Fluttershy. The other dolls are worth way less than they are selling (and I'm just talking about retail price--not the marked-up scary prices all over the place).
Finally we get to the hair. Rainbow Dash seems to have thicker hair than the dolls from the smaller sets. It's made from the same hair as the ponies. Not bad to brush on a pony as it's just a couple plugs thick, but it will knot like crazy on a fashion doll. I recommend pulling it back or braiding it for play. If it gets knotted use a spray bottle with water and gently work on the knots.
All-in-all, this is probably the only doll from the set I'd buy (and maybe Fluttershy) as she's my kid's favorite and actually is a little better-made than the rest. I discourage fellow parents and toy collectors from spending any less than retail (if even that). The reality is this toy is maybe worth fifteen clams--at the most. The others are worth ten or less. They just came out so don't panic about obtaining them for more than they retail. They will be packed on store shelves soon enough for retail (or less).
PS One thing that should be noted. While the packaging is decent, the back of Rainbow Dash's has things on it that are not true to her character. It focuses on how obsessed she is with fashion (will write quotes later)--and comes off making her sound more like Rarity than our favorite athletic pony. That's pretty silly, and it may concern some parents as to the type of message this sends to children. Luckily, it's easier to remedy with properly placed cute Pony stickers (easily home-made with an ink jet printer and a little time).
Best Deals for My Little Pony Equestria Girls - Rainbow Dash Deluxe Doll
We are very happy with our new Equestria Girl. They have Moxie girl type feet , where the whole foot comes off to replace shoes so you don't lose tiny little shoes. The hair is great, and a great clip on for the girls. The doll body style is the same as Tinkerbell dolls and hearts only so our doll has been in and out of many different outfits already. A big hit and likely the Equestria Girls will be THE HOT toy of the Christmas season 2013. My daughter is 8 and I am so happy she loves something as timeless as My Little Pony. I am 40 and my friends played with My Little Pony when I was a girl.I don't mind investing a lot into the My Little Pony toys because I know they will played with by her little sister and maybe even her own daughter some day.
I think it is important to keep a small amount of "toy themes" in the play room. We have My Little Pony, Barbie and American Girl doll. I don't let her get caught up in the doll of the week with Monster High, Novi, La te da and such those are not timeless and will quickly fade from popularity.
Honest reviews on My Little Pony Equestria Girls - Rainbow Dash Deluxe Doll
The Equestria Girls are an anthropomorphic form of the My Little Pony Characters. This doll is just as cute, if a little smaller than I expected she is about 8.5" high. Rainbow Dash has light blue skin, big purple anime eyes, a rainbow zigzag cutie mark on her left cheek, and long rainbow colored hair. This little doll comes with a hairbrush, two pairs of boots (black and blue) and two outfits. She has removable hard plastic wings that are a pale gold with glitter flecks. Her accessories include earrings a bracelet and a purple winged backpack. Also included are a rainbow clip-on hair extension "ponytail", a club card and stickers for play. This doll is jointed for posing and play.I am a fashion doll collector, not so much a MLP fan. I thought this doll was too cute to pass up with her rainbow hair and sweet expression. I was able to purchase this doll for retail price, which still seems a little high for what you get. There are many more affordable dolls of higher quality in this price range, but I recognize it is all about the character. I would also venture to guess that these Equestria Girls will have short lived availability and ponies will lose their human forms soon.
