* They're fully articulated, making them easier (and more fun) to pose and play with. When they say you can put these dolls in yoga poses they're not lying! Compare that to a Barbie which can barely sit up on its own.
* The heads are bigger, giving young children more hair to play with. Wigs are interchangeable, too, which has been really fun. And the hair is better quality than with Barbie.
* Body type is a bit more realistic than Barbie (but not much).
* The clothing is tasteful, unlike Barbie clothes which tend to be skin-tight and skanky. Liv dolls come fully covered with multiple layers of age-appropriate clothing and easily meet the dress code at my older daughter's elementary school. They're also very well designed; she can actually put them on and take them off BY HERSELF, which is huge. Skirts and tops are fully openable with soft Velcro, and boots are slit down the back for easy on and off. The dolls are even wearing white "underwear" which cannot be removed.
* Accessories seem to be interchangeable between lines. Our daughter has been using her Liv dolls with a Barbie convertible all morning with no problems. I wouldn't however consider interchanging the clothes for all the aforementioned reasons. I suspect Barbie shoes wouldn't fit Liv due to her flat feet (but she does have articulated ankles).
I will say that the fully articulated joints end up with these poor dolls being in some quite odd positions, LOL. But she's weathering it well. Small children are notoriously hard on things, and even though Liv's joints have been twisted like crazy, she's still going strong. Overall this doll was an exceptional buy.
