Sure the original Cécile doll had pretty kinky curls in an afro. But after just regular handling by a child it got frizzy and matted. The hair play is a major feature for for most dolls. So after many complaints the company fixed the hair and made it brushable and combable . You can braid or do her hair in several hairstyles. Her hair can be curled with just a water mist and small plastic perm rollers. Then let it dry for several hours like overnight . Not all black people have kinky curly hair. My daughter has both versions of Cécile now. She's 12 so the kinky curls one is in Prestine condition played with gently.

I am disappointed that this doll now has long smooth hair. I think she was much more original, more fun, and more realistic when her hair was kinky curly. Even my 7 year old daughter who has straight blond hair commented on this. She said she's glad she got the one with the more fun hair. Otherwise, I think the dolls and the clothes are great! Much better than American Girl.
