Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Barbie and her dress are permanently attached to each other so you're not going to be using many other accessories. Also, only the arms and head move, so you're pretty much also just going to mount her on the included stand. That being said, this is a very cool "gimmick" Barbie. The controls for changing the LED dress display are the three jewels permanently affixed to Barbie's neck. Though not terribly difficult to use, you should still make a copy of the instruction manual. If you've ever had a digital wrist-watch which required pressing and holding multiple tiny buttons, this works in a a similar manner.

For me, the coolest thing you can do is create a scrolling marquee out of Barbie's dress. I can't recommend strongly enough to keep this Barbie away from older brothers who will (as I found out) immediately program in totally inappropriate words.

I'd probably recommend this strongly for the Barbie collector. One star off because of the stand-alone nature of this version. She pretty much does one thing, and does it well.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I teach Sunday School to 4-6 grade students, of which six are girls. During the "social hour," I brought Barbie Digital Dress Doll for all of them, along with several of their younger sisters ages 6-8, to see and play with it, All were excited and found it easy to understand the instructions and to play with it.

It is a neat doll, and while it cannot bend its legs and arms like most Barbies, it does hold together nicely, no matter how it is pulled one way or another. It's dress is securely attached to the doll so that the LED's can show through. Using the stylus, or ones finger, it was easy to create a design, save it and replay it. It was, also, easy to whistle or play a tune and watch the LED animation react. Designs created can be deleted, or if it seems you've gotten everything messed-up, you can use the stylus to hit the "reset" button, and start over. It works with the stylus or your finger, with the stylus being a little better because it has a narrow point.

Barbie takes two AAA batteries, one located in each leg, and the screws were deep and easy to use.

The girls easily took apart and put together Barbie's stand, and the stand had a place to hold the stylus.

I could see where some girls could easily grow tried of Barbie Digital Dress Doll because it doesn't wear other dresses; however, on the other hand, children who like electronics and being creative with the lights would find more things to do with Barbie. It is definitely not a "one trick pony," but it isn't a "traditional" Barbie in the sense that one can have fun changing its outfits. So, think about spending this much. On the other side of the coin, it is totally different from any Barbie they currently would have.

Most girls have more than one Barbie, and if they had this one, it would be THE ONE that all of their friends would want to play with when they came over. The batteries seem to last a long time (I haven't had to change them after days of constant use).

If you want to give your child a toy that will have all of their friends talking, Barbie Digital Dress Doll is it, just be aware it has some limitations.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program First off, I'd like to point out that this is not a doll that my daughters have played with in the traditional manner.

They have spent many hours lighting up the pixels and making different patterns and combinations. Its like an electronic version of Perler Beads, which is a different craft actvity that they also like. They have spent hours doing that.

They haven't made up stories with it (traditional play). They do a lot of that. This barbie has a couple things that detract from the experience: Her legs don't bend, so, she can't sit in the vehicles as easily. And, you can't change her outfit either, which is also a popular thing for them to do when they are playing.

Learning how to program barbie wasn't that hard for them, they figured it out mostly on their own. There is a palette of colors that is accessed by picking one button. Then, you choose your color and "start to draw". They said they've created some animations, which I think is done by choosing a pre-loaded animation and applying it. So, if you make your design "right", then it looks good with the chosen animation. But not all animations have a good effect with all designs.

Even my 5 year old son took it to a restaurant yesterday and I had a hard time getting him to stop messing with it and eat.

Anyway I think they are enjoying it a lot more than the barbie with the video camera built into it (they got that last year).

I give it high marks. I'm sure there are some minor gripes, but I always rate toys by how much the kids play with them. Thats what you buy them for. I had some minor gripes but lets face it... its not made for me to play with.

They are fascinated with Digital Dress Barbie's light displays when you play with her 3 modes of play. In the first mode, you can use the stylus or your finger to create and save your own light designs. In the second mode, you can use your finger to animate, making your finger play with the lights. In the third mode, you can use sound to animate the lightsit doesn't matter if you are singing or talking or beating a drum or playing musicthe light show keeps up with your sounds.

This Barbie cannot be dressed, as her dress is a permanent part of her, due to the digital lights. Her legs hold the batteries and don't bend. Her necklace cannot be removed as they are the light mode control buttons. You can still play with her hair and change her shoes, but all this really limits her playability.

Just when the older girls became a bit bored with Barbie's animated light shows, and not being able to dress her or pose her much, the younger girls found Barbie is even more fun to play with after dark, when the brightly colored lights really show up. The younger girls are still creating light shows and having fun styling Barbie's hair to match, so this Digital Dress Barbie is perfect for a younger child.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program PROS: She comes with killer shoes and a cute bracelet. Both are removable. She comes with a neat stand so that she can be placed on display. Her face is beautiful. Her hair is lovely and thick.

CONS: Like her dress? No? Too bad it can't be removed unless you cut it off. (It's actually attached in the front to her display.) And if you do, I'm not sure what you'd put her in that would fit or would allow her digital screen to be visible. She has an odd flat fronted figure and a wider body than the usual Barbie.

I really hate that it seems to be that piercing a doll's head with plastic ties to hold her in place is becoming standard procedure. Maybe it's me, but I always end up with plastic stuck in the doll's head. Wire around the neck will be fine to hold her in position.

Only her arms and her head move. She cannot sit because her display is in her middle. She cannot bend her knees or move her legs at all because the 2 AAA batteries used to power the display are in her legs.

Learning how to work the display requires the instruction manual. So be sure not to loose it.

2.5 STARS: This poor Barbie will not mingle with the other dolls. She can't sit and chat with them. Nor can she swap clothes with them. The only thing she can ever hope to be is their nightlight. My daughter played with it for a couple of days before putting her on her stand and abandoning her.
